Degol Hailu was born in Ethiopia. He later moved to the United Kingdom and earned a PhD in economics from SOAS, University of London where he also worked as a research fellow. He then joined the United Nations and worked in many cities including New York, Brasilia, Port of Spain, Brussels and Addis Ababa. He is widely published in economic development. At present, Degol lives and writes in London. Pillaging the Dead is his debut novel.
