All children must have the opportunity to see themselves reflected in literature as new horizons are opened for them. Similarly, all children must learn to observe worlds beyond their own by looking through the windowpane. Unfortunately, many Black children are only exposed to the latter, never seeing themselves as the stars of their own stories.
