Our Submission Guidelines
Submissions are currently closed and will reopen on June 1st 2019
We have developed a reputation for publishing high quality and original books. We are always looking for new and distinctive voices from writers of African origin who may be located on the continent as well as from the Caribbean, the Americas and Europe. We want books that are engaging, immersive and daring.
Because of the high volume of submissions we receive, we are not able to acknowledge each one – but please be patient with us as we endeavour to respond within 4 – 6 months once we reach a decision. If you haven’t heard from us within this period, then unfortunately your submission has not been successful.
You have now written your book and are getting ready to send it off to a publisher. Before you do so, take time to understand the industry you’re about to get into. Read this: https://www.ian-irvine.com/for-writers/the-truth-about-publishing/
What we’re looking for
- Literary fiction & short story collections
- Narrative non-fiction
- Teen fiction and children’s books.
- Crime through our Cassava Crime
- Romance through imprint Ankara Press
We are especially interested in submissions by women, writers from North and East Africa, the Caribbean, African-American and black Europeans, and those that explore uncharted areas in African letters: diverse sexualities, speculative fiction, fantasy and crime.
We do not publish poetry, plays and dramas, self-help, management or religious books. We are unable to reply to these types of submissions.
We very much enjoy the editorial process and we have deliberately kept our list small so that we can work very closely with our authors, who are at the centre of our business. We love working with authors who are committed to their craft and who unambiguously support the growth of African publishing and see the African world as an important and valued part of their readership.
