Manuscript submission Guidelines

We receive many letters from budding authors, inquiring about our publishing procedure. We are always interested in hearing from new writers as well as established and award-winning authors who would like to reach readers in Africa. Please read through our criteria for publishing below.

What kinds of books do we publish?

We are only interested in publishing novels, short story collection, children’s books and commissioned non-fiction at the moment. We place emphasis on manuscripts that explore a diversity of contemporary experience in Africa, especially West Africa in an original, engaging, radical and empowering way.  We are particularly interested in submission by women and those that explore uncharted areas in African literature such as diverse sexualities, urban, and under-class experiences. The manuscript must be written in a coherent standard language.

What do we look for in a proposal?

We are always interested in hearing from writers about what they are working on. You can help us assess whether your project would be a good fit for Cassava Republic Press by submitting a proposal. The proposal should include the following components:

Project overview. Be sure to include a working title for your manuscript. Provide a brief description in one or two paragraphs of your book. Be sure to include: the mission, purpose, or overall concept of the book. If necessary, provide a table of content and an outline with summaries/descriptions of each chapter. Let us know if the book is completed or not, completion date and anticipated length of the book.
